Day 2: God Will Not Break His Promises.

Because GOD IS FAITHFUL, I can be sure He always keeps His promises!

Read or quote the memory verse.

Let's talk about friends:

Who is your most faithful friend?

How has he/she shown you faithfulness?

How has he/she let you down... even when his/her intentions were good?

God is our only totally faithful friend. He is the ONLY ONE who has the ability, and the character, to be faithful ALL the time.

Let's read Numbers 23:19:

God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?Discover God Bible, (NLT).

You may remember this verse from our exploration of God's Truthfulness.

What does this verse say about God? (He doesn't lie; He doesn't change His mind; He always does what He says; He always comes through on a promise.)

If God broke a promise, what would that mean about His other attributes?

Holy (Perfect and clean)? (He wouldn't be perfect if He broke a promise.)

Totally Truthful? (If He broke a promise, then He wouldn't be Totally Truthful because He said He would do it.)

Righteous? (He wouldn't be 100% right if He broke a promise.)

God would not be God if He were not faithful all the time.

Let's read 2 Timothy 2:13 and find out what happens when we aren't faithful to God:

If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.Discover God Bible, (NLT).

What happens when we're unfaithful to God? (He is still faithful to us!)

God is faithful. It's who He is. Even our unfaithfulness can't change who God is. In the Old Testament, the Israelites found this out firsthand. You see, they were ready to go in to the land that God had promised them, but He stopped them and made them wander in the desert for 40 years!

Why do you think God stopped the Israelites from going into the land He had promised to them? Was it because He was going against His promise? (No! God is faithful. He always keeps His promises!)

Israel sent out spies to check out the Promised Land. All but two of the spies returned to say that the land was full of giants and enemies that they could not defeat. The people were afraid of giants and began to whine and complain about all God had done for them.

Only two of the spies said that God could give them victory and that the people should go in to the land as He had promised and instructed, but the people wouldn't go.

God told them this in Numbers 14:21-25:

But as surely as I live, and as surely as the earth is filled with the Lord's glory, not one of these people will ever enter that land. They have all seen My glorious presence and the miraculous signs I performed both in Egypt and in the wilderness, but again and again they have tested Me by refusing to listen to My voice. They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated Me with contempt will ever see it. But My servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to Me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land. Now turn around, and don't go on toward the land . . . Discover God Bible, (NLT).

God still kept His promise to the Israelite nation, but those who refused to trust in Him and kept speaking poorly of Him whenever things were difficult never got to live in the land. The consequences of their disbelief cost them the blessing of seeing God's promise fulfilled. God kept His promise to take the Israelites to a land just for them, but all those who doubted God's faithfulness died in the wilderness without ever seeing the promised land.

God still kept His promises to them. He never left them. He continued to provide for them. God is always Faithful, even when we are unfaithful.

The fact that God is Faithful to forgive our sins does not mean we won't suffer some consequences because of them.

Why does it matter?

Because God is Faithful I can be sure that He is faithful even when I'm not.
