Day 4: Discovering God's Love Language!

If you haven't done the "Love Language" quiz before, take time to do it now. If you have, review what each person's love language is.

Because GOD IS LOVE, I know He loves me no matter what, and He helps me to love others as I love myself.

Read or quote the memory verse.

Review the Five Love Languages below:

Do you think God has a Love Language? Today we will see what the Bible has to say about it! Jesus was asked what the greatest Commandment is in Matthew 22:37-39, and this is what He said:

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. Discover God Bible, (NLT).

How important is it to God that we love Him? (More important than anything else!)

What do you think God's Love Language is?

The Bible shows us that He enjoys all the Love Languages, but there is one that is most important to Him. Let's look at the ways we can show God we love Him and see which one you think is most important:

Acts of Service

Acts of Service is found in Matthew 25:34-40.

Then the King will say to those on His right, "Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed Me. I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited Me into your home. I was naked, and you gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in prison, and you visited Me." Then these righteous ones will reply, "Lord, when did we ever see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and gave You something to drink? Or a stranger and show You hospitality? Or naked and give You clothing? When did we ever see You sick or in prison and visit You?" And the King will say, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these My brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!" Discover God Bible, (NLT).

How can you show love to God through acts of service? (Help those who need help.)

Physical Touch

Read Mark 10:13,14,16.

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so He could touch them and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering Him. When Jesus saw what was happening, He was angry with His disciples. He said, "Let the children come to Me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children . . . Then He took the children in His arms and placed His hands on their heads and blessed them. Discover God Bible, (NLT).

Jesus could have blessed the children without touching them. After all, He healed many people without ever touching them. He could have blessed them by simply touching their heads, but Jesus took them in His arms.

How do you think you would have felt if Jesus took you in His arms and talked with you?

Jesus was angry with His disciples for keeping the children away. He wanted to be with the children. Can you imagine Him hugging and laughing with the children?

We can still feel Jesus hug us when He wraps us in warm sunlight or kisses us with a summer rain or a gently falling snowflake. He hugs us with the love of a parent or brother or sister.

When you hug a parent or sibling who needs encouragement or love, Jesus feels your love too.

Words of Encouragement

Words of Encouragement is found in Psalm 97:12.

May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise His holy name!Discover God Bible, (NLT).

The Book of Psalms is filled with words of encouragement or praise to our Lord. Every time we praise or thank God it not only delights His heart, but it also reminds us of how great He is.

(NOTE: If you want to illustrate this, read Psalm 145:1-3 and 13,14, and ask how those words of praise not only express love to God, but also encourage them)

Gifts

Gifts . . . yes, even God loves gifts!
Listen to 2 Corinthians 9:7, 8.

You must decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully." And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. Discover God Bible, (NLT).

What type of gifts bring God joy? (Anything done with a joyful heart and with the desire to help someone else.)

Quality Time

Do you know what God wants more than anything? (He wants us to spend time with Him.)

Read Revelation 2:2-4.

God says this to a group of people who did a lot of good things but they stopped doing the most important--see if you can figure out what they stopped doing.

I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don't tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for Me without quitting. But I have this one thing against you. You don't love Me or each other as you did at first! Discover God Bible, (NLT).

What do you think they stopped doing? (Loving God.)

How do we keep our love for God strong? (We begin by spending time with Him, talking with Him and getting to know Him better. If we stop doing that then nothing else will matter.)

Why does it matter?

Sometimes it's hard to know how to show God that you love Him because you can't see Him. God does want us to show Him we love Him, and He tells us how to do it in the Bible.

How are you showing your love for God?

Talk with God and Stay Connected
to the Vine!

Talk with God about your love for Him. Pick a love language (acts of service, physical touch, words of encouragement, gifts, or quality time), and ask God to help you show Him you love Him that way.
